Card #1

I have been trying to make a model using card based on my first idea of the curling and wilting of leaves. With this idea, I have been trying to curl the edges of the material inwards. The difference in the flexibility of the card compared to the paper is so large that the models look completely different. The card cannot flex as much as the paper, therefore the curling is more simplified. However, because the curl isn't as smooth, the size of each plane is greater, this results in a more dramatic and sharp appearance but still results in a curve.

While creating this model, I realised that I would have to use larger sections between the cuts, otherwise each cut wouldn't have the room to fold when bending it. I managed to make two edges curve, but the angle of the curve is not as great as I would of hoped. Therefore I decided to try and use wider sections in the hope that the angle at which each cut could bend would be greater.

By increasing the area of the card, the cut has a greater maximum angle at which a fold can occur. Therefore a more dynamic shape was produced because the larger angles allowed more flexibility of the cuts.

I then tried to increase the number of sections the model had to allow a greater range of folding, while still have the larger folding angles.

I also experimented with using angled and straight line cuts to see how this would affect the curling of the leaf. They produced very different outcomes, but interesting in their own way. The areas that have maximum curl change the composition of the model. This shows that small changes to a model can have major differents in the outcome.
